in 1972 francois de roubaix and bernard maitre composed together the music of a tv series for children presented by puppets, called the onix. the musical oddity here released by weme records is a part of this ost. this piece of music demonstrates once again that francois de roubaix was in touch with all kinds of music of his time, including contemporary music. in this experimental track we can feel the influences of the composer pierre henry, an other explorer of unknown sounds. on the b side jodey kendrick makes his own interpretation of this music with current tech and sounds while keeping the atmosphere and fantasy of the original sound. attention non music !

for more than ten years dimi ange lis and jeroen search have been working together to demonstrate just how they think serious techno should be executed. their respective careers as individual artists are equally accomplished, but as a pair they have shown a fierce dedication to just the kind of aesthetic principles that define chronicle as a label, and so it gives us great pleasure to present an expansive ep of six tracks that tunnel deep into the bowels of late night, uncompromising techno.

straight out of the ukraine comes io (mulen) aka aleksandr voznichenko, a man whose back catalogue includes releases on labels such as rejected, eklectisch and area remote to name but a few. now he links up with one of paris’ premier labels, run by one of paris’ premier crews – apollonia. with one solid track and a classy remix from danish young gun malin génie, this is another surefire winner from apollonia. ‘to the unknown’ kicks things off with a steady build up. shrouded in a hazy mist it draws you to its understated groove, io turns in a very considered production that evolves at a slow yet utterly gripping pace. the energy levels rise like the tide of the ocean, engulfing you before you know it. io’s dexterity and cunning ability to keep the listener engaged manifests itself here, bomb! on the flip side, malin genie steps in to give ‘to the unknown’ a new lick of paint and what we get is a jazzy, minimal rework with a jaunty skip in its step and a wicked bassline.

brilliant tv and movie themes by francois de roubaix!!! on 20 november 1975 francois de roubaix disappeared while diving. before going towards this tragic death, francois had received an order for a television series theme tune commissaire moulin. as usual, the composed melody has been indelibly printed in the collective memory. francois de roubaix always put his fingers where it should be! between electronic tricks and acoustic works, this record brings the themes of this television series together with other musics composed for never released or still unknown projects... all unpublished music, never pressed on vinyl! it soon becomes clear that francois de roubaix feels confortable with this kind of exercises. the result is every time sublime. recommended!!
